The research paper is an important part of this course's curriculum. By completing this assignment, you will learn valuable skills that can be applied to other classes, to college, and to your career field. Skill areas that this assignment focuses on include: finding and evaluating sources of information, reading for information, note taking, organizing information, outlining, and word processing skills. Please note the due dates for each part of the research paper. There will be class time to work on each assignment; however, you will find it necessary to also work on this project outside of class in order to meet each due date. You have up to the stated due date to turn in each part of the project. Assignments turned in after a due date will not receive full credit unless you have received permission from me. Requirements:
11/14/2017 Argumentative Writing: Final EssayYou will know you have learned how to write an argumentative essay when you can:
Directions: 1. Read the sample argument essay. Follow the directions in the boxes on the left side of the page. When everyone has finished, discuss as a class. 2. Read the three article sources and fill out the graphic organizers on the backs. As you read, box the title and any subtitles, circle any unknown words, underline the main points in each paragraph, and star any interesting ideas. The articles will become the sources for your paper so read them carefully. 3. Read the writing prompt: Is the American criminal justice system fair? Use the T-chart to brainstorm ideas for your essay. Be sure to provide support for BOTH sides as you will need a counter argument in your essay. 4. After brainstorming ideas for support, Use the outline to organize your ideas. If you need help with your thesis statement, go back to the Thesis Statement post on this website. 5. Start your rough draft.
